Welcome to the conversation.Up until about two months ago, I, and most of the other creators of this website, had heard little to nothing about the legal battle between the Holy Land Foundation and its founders versus the U.S. government. As the facts of the case were revealed to us, the wide-reaching implications became apparent - and frightening. Please join in this important and contemporary dialogue as an American, a defender of civil rights, or just a concerned human being.

Step into the courtroom

When?Although the HLF was initially shut down in 2001 by the Bush administration, the pursuing cases have continued all the way up to the Supreme Court in 2012. Currently, the Holy Land Five are still serving time, although their lawyers are seeking other alternatives to overturn their convictions.

Where? The HLF was a Texas-based organization until the time of its forced closure by the U.S. government in 2001. The reach of this case has been a national phenomenon, however, and ultimately appealed to the Supreme Court in 2012, even though this effort was unsuccessful.

WHY?
The "why" in this case is a difficult question to answer, mostly because it has not been satisfactorily resolved. What is certain is that this evident injustice is the result of a combination of fear-mongering, racism, political aims, and a complicated Islamophobia as described by Ramon Grosfugel. The rest of this website aims to elaborate the answer to this "why" and to foster and understanding that will hopefully lead to a much more just ruling for this foundation and for these men. The U.S. government, although perhaps valiant in its efforts to protect its citizens, is not infallible and must be reminded of its boundaries by the people.
